About the Role

This role is a pivotal part of our client’s data modernization initiative, focused on migrating critical data from Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery) into enterprise‑grade SQL data warehouses. The Lead ETL Developer will work within a collaborative, fast‑paced environment alongside business analysts, data architects, and a team of ETL engineers. By designing and delivering robust data pipelines, the incumbent ensures that both transactional and analytical workloads remain reliable, performant, and future‑ready. The position offers the opportunity to shape best‑practice standards, mentor junior developers, and directly influence the success of a high‑visibility conversion project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development of ETL and data ingestion pipelines to migrate data from GCP BigQuery to SQL‑based warehouse environments.
  • Architect and implement scalable pipelines using modern ETL tools and cloud‑native processing frameworks.
  • Train and mentor a team of 4+ ETL developers on coding standards, best practices, and data‑model design.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to validate data requirements and align solutions with reporting and analytics needs.
  • Develop comprehensive testing strategies to guarantee data integrity, completeness, and accuracy throughout migration.
  • Optimize pipelines for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Validate transactional and analytical data models to ensure they meet downstream application and BI requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver clear technical documentation, presentations, and status updates for both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of hands‑on experience designing, building, and maintaining ETL solutions in large‑scale data environments.
  • Strong expertise with Google Cloud Platform, specifically BigQuery, and experience loading data into enterprise SQL data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, Azure Synapse).
  • Proven ability to design and implement data models that support both transactional and analytical workloads.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring junior developers and establishing coding standards.
  • Solid understanding of data quality, testing frameworks, and performance tuning techniques for high‑volume pipelines.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for business stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Relevant certifications such as Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, Snowflake SnowPro Core, or similar are a plus.

Tools & Technologies

  • ETL Platforms: Apache Beam, Google Cloud Dataflow, Informatica, Talend, or equivalent modern ETL tools.
  • Cloud Services: Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub), IAM, and networking.
  • SQL/Data Warehousing: Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Azure Synapse, or traditional RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle).
  • Scripting/Programming: Python, Java, or Scala for data transformation logic.
  • Version Control & CI/CD: Git, GitHub/GitLab, Jenkins, or Cloud‑based pipelines.
  • Data Modeling: ER/Dimensional modeling tools (Erwin, PowerDesigner) and documentation standards.

Work Schedule & Duration

  • Contract length: Approximately 9 months (Start Date: 09/28/2026 – End Date: 06/30/2027).
  • On‑site work at our client’s office in Des Moines, Iowa, with potential hybrid flexibility based on project needs.
  • Full‑time effort, typical business hours with occasional extended hours to meet migration milestones.

Interview Process

The interview process typically includes an initial recruiter screening, followed by a technical interview focused on ETL design and cloud data platforms. Candidates may then meet with the hiring manager and a panel of senior technical leaders to discuss leadership experience and project fit. The final step is a brief presentation or case study to demonstrate communication and documentation skills. Interviews can be conducted via webcam or in‑person at the client site.
