About the Role
This role supports Our Client's Office of Information Technology (OIT) by driving the design, development, and delivery of business intelligence solutions using Power BI. You will work in a collaborative environment alongside business analysts, data engineers, and end‑users to translate complex data into actionable insights. The position demands a blend of technical expertise and strong communication skills to ensure that reports and dashboards meet strategic objectives. Your contributions will directly influence data‑driven decision‑making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and analyze business requirements to define clear reporting objectives and data model specifications.
- Design, build, and document conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support scalable Power BI solutions.
- Develop interactive Power BI reports and dashboards, incorporating slicers, drill‑throughs, streaming visuals, and ArcGIS map layers.
- Write efficient DAX formulas, calculated columns, and measures to deliver accurate analytics and enforce row‑ and column‑level security.
- Connect Power BI to diverse data sources—including APIs, Google BigQuery, ArcGIS feature layers, SQL databases, and Excel files—and ensure reliable data extraction and transformation.
- Optimize report performance using DAX Studio, Power BI performance analyzer, and best‑practice modeling techniques.
- Publish and manage reports in the Power BI Service, configure access controls, and automate data refresh schedules.
- Collaborate with the OIT Integrations team to align integration patterns and maintain version‑controlled Power BI assets.
- Leverage AI tools (e.g., Google AI) to enhance data preparation, automate repetitive tasks, and improve analytical workflows.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience developing Power BI reports and data models.
- Strong proficiency in DAX for creating calculated columns, measures, and custom calculations.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
- Experience designing row‑level and column‑level security within Power BI semantic models.
- Proven ability to gather requirements, translate business needs into technical specifications, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Familiarity with data source connectivity (REST APIs, Google BigQuery, ArcGIS, SQL Server, Excel) and ETL concepts.
- Knowledge of best practices for Power BI file version control (e.g., Git or Azure DevOps).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
Tools & Technologies
- Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service for report authoring and deployment.
- DAX Studio for performance tuning and query analysis.
- Tabular Editor (including Best Practice Analyzer) for model management.
- Microsoft Excel for data manipulation and preliminary analysis.
- SQL databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL) for relational data access.
- Google BigQuery and ArcGIS APIs for specialized data sources.
- Version control systems such as Git or Azure DevOps for source management.
- AI assistance tools (e.g., Google AI, Microsoft Copilot) to streamline data workflows.
Work Schedule & Duration
- Contract period: October 26, 2026 – June 30, 2027 (approximately 8 months).
- On‑site location at Our Client headquarters in Denver, Colorado, with potential hybrid flexibility based on project needs.
- Full‑time effort, typical business hours with occasional extended hours to meet critical deployment timelines.
Interview Process
The interview process typically includes an initial phone screening with the recruitment team, followed by a technical interview focused on Power BI, DAX, and data modeling. Candidates may also complete a practical case study or live Power BI exercise, and conclude with a final discussion with the hiring manager to assess cultural fit and project alignment.
