Web Engineer

About the Role

Our Client is seeking a skilled Web Engineer to join their IT team as a consultant. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain web-based applications that support the agency’s mission to deliver high‑quality public health services. You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional stakeholders, ensuring that solutions are secure, scalable, and user‑friendly. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing you to balance remote work with on‑site collaboration at the Cayce office. Your contributions will directly impact the effectiveness of the agency’s digital services and the experience of its constituents.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy responsive web applications using modern front‑end frameworks.
• Implement server‑side logic and APIs to support business processes and data integration.
• Ensure web applications meet security best practices, including OWASP guidelines and data protection standards.
• Collaborate with UX/UI designers, product managers, and IT operations to translate requirements into functional solutions.
• Perform code reviews, unit testing, and integration testing to maintain high code quality.
• Monitor application performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize for speed and reliability.
• Document technical specifications, architecture decisions, and user guides for internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and contractors.
• Participate in sprint planning, stand‑ups, and retrospective meetings as part of an Agile team.
• Stay current with emerging web technologies and recommend improvements to the technology stack.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience as a Web Engineer or Full‑Stack Developer.
• Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (ES6+), with experience in at least one modern framework such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
• Hands‑on experience building RESTful APIs using Node.js, .NET Core, Java Spring, or Python Flask/Django.
• Solid understanding of relational database design and SQL (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Experience with version control systems, preferably Git, and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of web security principles, including authentication, authorization, and data encryption.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently in a hybrid environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Valid South Carolina driver’s license and current residency in South Carolina.
• Background check clearance and E‑Verify eligibility required.

• Back‑end: Node.js, Express, .NET Core, Java Spring Boot, Python Flask/Django.
• Databases: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL.
• Version Control: Git, GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket.
• CI/CD: Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins.
• Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud (basic familiarity).
• Web Servers: IIS, Nginx, Apache.
• Project Management: JIRA, Confluence, Azure Boards.
• Testing: Jest, Mocha, Selenium, Cypress.

Work Schedule & Duration

• Contract length: 12 months with potential for extension.
• Hybrid work model: 4 days remote, 1 day onsite per week at the Cayce office.
• Start date: September 11, 2026.
• Candidate must be a current South Carolina resident; relocation not permitted.

Interview Process

The selection process includes a single round of virtual or onsite interviews conducted via Microsoft Teams or in person. Candidates will be evaluated on technical proficiency, problem‑solving ability, and cultural fit with Our Client’s IT team.
